Womens Car Insurance Has Been the Butt of Too Many Jokes For Too Long
Women’s car insurance and women’s driving abilities have been the butt of too many jokes devised by too many men over too long a time.
The statistics show that women are no worse than men and in many states of Australia, they are considerably safer drivers. In fact, if they were to go head-to-head, the statistics would certainly come out in favour of women drivers simply because there are more male drivers using the roads at most times of the day.
Men have made jokes about women’s driving abilities and skill levels because it eases their conscience. Men are much more likely to become frustrated on the roads and take unnecessary chances where a woman is more inclined to be cautious and wait.
It has also been my experience as I have driven around Australia, that some of the most courteous male drivers I have ever had the pleasure of encountering on our roads have been the Road Train drivers. Mind you, they are so big and have so many wheels that even the most aggro male driver will treat them respectfully. Still they are extremely polite and friendly as they roar up, down and across the inland highways of Australia
It’s time women took pride in their driving skills and lower insurance claims because of this cautious driving ability. Here in Australia, if a driver has 5 years with no insurance claims they can enjoy a ‘no claim bonus’ that substantially decreases their premium each year.
Unfortunately, if a woman has been on a shared car insurance policy it can sometimes be quite difficult for her to get her no claim bonus allowance if she splits up with her partner. That is why I always advocate that a woman’s name MUST appear on the shared policy.
Insurance providers run on proof and unless you can prove that you have been a policy holder for the required time, then you may be forced to accept a lesser bonus and pay more for car insurance cover for the first year until you prove yet again that you are a safe driver to insure.
When you apply for a car insurance quote either online, on the phone or in person, don’t be intimidated by anyone who is less than polite. When I had to prove my ‘good driving record’ after my marriage split up, I had the misfortune to enquire in person at an insurance office and the fellow there was all “smirky” and as helpful as a cut snake. Luckily for me, my “X” and I parted on good terms so I was able to get the required paperwork to prove my case.
As it turned out, I went with another insurance company even though I took a lesser percentage no-claim bonus because I didn’t want to deal with any company who hired a ‘smirker’. Being newly separated, it was a most inconsiderate way to treat a potential client. If you are always aware, that the sales rep that you deal with will most probably be receiving a commission for any sale to you, if you aren’t happy, use your feet and walk. If there is one thing this world is not short of and that’s insurance Companies.
Good insurance companies are a different kettle of fish so if you are woman after car insurance when you find the one that suits you, stick with them. If you ever need to make a claim, you need to know that the insurer is right there beside you.
